Gelora Party Lost Votes in Paniai

JAKARTA (MKRI) — The Constitutional Court (MK) held a preliminary hearing for the election results dispute (PHPU) petitioned by the Indonesian People’s Wave Party (Gelora) for the Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) election in Paniai Regency, Central Papua Province, electoral district of Paniai I. The hearing of case No. 51-01-07-36/PHPU.DPR-DPRD-XXII/2024 was presided over by Constitutional Justices Arief Hidayat (panel chair), Anwar Usman, and Enny Nurbaningsih on Monday, April 29, 2024. The Petitioner filed a petition to cancel the General Election Commission (KPU) Decree No. 360 of 2024, which was announced on Wednesday, March 20, 2024.
Legal counsel Aryo Tyasmoro states that based on recapitulation results of political parties and Regency DPRD candidates of electoral district Paniai I on Tuesday, March 6, 2024, the Petitioner was in the thirteenth position with total 5 votes. There were only nine seats for Paniai I, so he did not obtain any. Whereas he claimed he obtained 4,180 votes.
“The loss of 4,175 votes was caused by reduction of the Petitioner’s votes at TPS (polling station) 1 in Yagiyobutu [Village], Wegee Muka Subdistrict and other polling stations. Following the C-Results copy forms, the Petitioner should be in the fifth position with 4,180 votes,” he said.
Meanwhile, the highest number of votes was for the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), with 9,428 votes, followed by the People’s Conscience Party (Hanura) with 7,368 votes, the Nusantara Awakening Party (PKN) with 6,721 votes, and the United Indonesia Party (Perindo) with 5,128 votes.
