KUWAIT CITY: A senior judiciary official says Kuwait s Constitutional Court will hear an unprecedented number of complaints â 32 in all â over the results of last month s parliamentary elections.
Senior legal official Faisal al-Sarawi told state-owned Kuwait News Agency Tuesday that result challengers claim mistakes were made in vote counting. Monday was the last day for contesting the results of the May 17 vote which was overseen by judges.
Al-Sarawi did not provide details, but many candidates have complained about an automatic counting system used for the first time. Previously, votes were counted by hand.
The court could order a re-count or new voting in certain districts. No court date has been set. Kuwaitis elected a 50-seat legislature with 24 Muslim hard-liners.
